The Huntington Town Board, in partnership with the Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs, has declared May 16-22 as Safe Boating Week in the Town of Huntington. During that week, the Town and the Greater Huntington Council will join with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Neptune Sail and Power Squadron in offering various programs highlighting the importance of taking safety precautions and behaving sensibly when spending time on the water. The week features free courtesy boating equipment inspections and an eight-hour New York State boating and safety course among the events. One highlight will be the annual nautical flea market and festival May 17 in Mill Dam Park.
With the boating season of 2015 almost upon us, the Town of Huntington will be hosting a “FREE” one-day eight-hour New York State Boaters Safety Course at Huntington Town Hall – located at 100 Main Street in Huntington. This course is in support of the Greater Huntington Council of Yacht & Boating Clubs’ Third Annual Huntington Safe Boating Week Festival kicking off on Sunday, May 17th at Mill Dam Park in Halesite with a Nautical Flea Market. Those attending will learn the fundamentals of safe boating such as safe loading & operation, navigation rules, getting underway and accidents & emergencies and much more.
In addition to our regular lineup for movies for our 2015 Movies on the Lawn Program, we are asking you to vote on which movie you'd like to see on Monday, August 17 at Peter Nelson Park.
The choices are Cinderella (2015 version) Frozen, or Maleficent.

The Green Showcase at the Family Earth Day Expo will offer multiple demonstrations including renewable energy, composting, organic gardening and fun activities for the kids along with giveaways. Children can climb aboard a fire truck, police car, ambulance, or garbage truck, they can create a flower pot out of newspaper and then plant a flower, and they can observe live marine life in a touch tank.
Trader Joe's of Commack will provide the first 200 residents to trade in a plastic grocery bag with a free eco-friendly tote bag! So bring a plastic bag for recycling to the Family Earth Day Expo on Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
New to the Expo this year is the ability to safely dispose of medicines, an effort co-sponsored by the Citizens Campaign for the Environment. Please bring any unused medicine to the event for proper disposal. Starting in 2015, state law bans some type of electronic waste – televisions, computers, computer monitors and peripherals, printers, VCR’s, games, etc. – from being recycled with regular garbage. It must be recycled.
Here’s what you have to do:
- Call 631-351-3239 to make an appointment for a curbside pick up
- Bring the e-waste to the Town recycling center at 641 New York Avenue, Huntington
- Bring the equipment to a participating electronics retailer
