Segway Sunday- September 29, 2013
Today’s Segway Sunday started off on a bittersweet note. Prior to meeting up with my team I attended a special memorial ceremony at Mill Dam Park in Halesite where I helped to dedicate Softball Field #4 in the honor and memory of John “Muggs” Gerardi who passed away earlier this year at the age of 64. Mr. Gerardi was a gifted athlete and a kind, generous and caring soul. He served our country in Vietnam and settled in Huntington to live, work and raise a family. Mr. Gerardi’s involvement with Huntington softball spanned three decades as a player, manager, organizer and president of the Huntington Men’s Softball League. He will be sorely missed.
From Halesite, my team and I met in a neighborhood off Middleville Road in Fort Salonga to finish out this month’s Segway tour. Two and a half hours in, the Segway’s battery called it quits so we took to bicycles to finish up the route. All the miles I’ve logged on the “Mark-O-Meter” really paid off on those hills.
Thanks for reading my blog and for your support as I continue to push towards the November 5th finish line and Drive Huntington Forward. Don’t hesitate to flag me down to say hello if you see me around town.
